From the Commodore:

I hope that everyone had a very Happy Easter.  Our season is off to a good start with all committee chairmen working hard to make this year an active one with activities for all our members.  April will be a busy month for our race committee.  The end of the month will see us participating in the off shore regatta.  Some of our members will be racing in it and other acting as committee boat.  If you are interested in helping out with this event, please contact Bob Canon.  The Vice Commodore has applied for our blessing of the fleet permit to the Coast Guard.  We hope to hold this event in August as we can use all the blessing we can get during hurricane season.  I look forward to seeing everyone at our next meeting on April 5th; remember we will be celebrating Easter with our covered dish for this meeting.  Let's keep the meeting participation level up.  Our past two meeting were well attended.  See you all on April 5th and once again, Happy Easter!

 O'KANES' ST. PATRICKS DAY REGATTA

The Amelia Island Sailing Club held its' annual St. Patricks Day Regatta on Saturday March 12th. The race, sponsored again this year by O'Kanes Irish Pub, was run in the Cumberland Sound under the threat of small craft warnings with winds forecast to 30 kts. with higher gusts. Four boats decided to brave the tough conditions and an exciting race ensued. The boats started off the downtown marina, sailing down the channel and then North towards
Kings Bay rounding several green (for the occasion)
markers along the way. The sailboats, ranging from 30 to 38 ft. in lenght,  were heeled over and tossed about by the gusting westerly winds and an outgoing tide which because of the west wind was running at about 3 kts. The first place boat, Skimmer skipped by Graeme Nichol and his first rate crew, completed the 12.1 mile course in 83  minutes. Breathing down his stern most of the way and finishing only 10 seconds later, was Coy Mistress skipped by Bill and Lin Bass. John and Gale Burns on Mast Confusion crossed three minutes later followed closely by Butch Beard on Cheese Boat.  After ajusting for local handicapps,  the offical winner was Coy Mistress, followed by Cheese Boat, Skimmer, and Mast Confusion.  Thanks again to O'Kanes for their support. The next race will be held April 9th in the ocean to Nassau Sound and is Sponsored by the
Amelia Island Yacht Basin.
