Is
it hot enough for ya'll?!? Summer is
here and those late afternoon thunderstorms will really get your
attention. Please be careful out there
folks!
The
AISC JULY 4th week-end cruise up to Jekyll Island Marina was great
fun and we had a very good turn-out.
Thanks to Pat and Tom Keenan, our Cruise Committee couple. Our next club cruise will be up to Golden
Isles Marina at St. Simons, over the Labor Day week-end holiday. Please talk with Pat and Tom to make sure
that your reservations for the Labor Day week-end cruise are taken care of.
Our
August monthly meeting is going to be another POT-LUCK dinner! So please
bring you entrees or side dishes…and we'll have another feast! Thanks so much to
Linda
Leckie for working to arrange all of our landside activities!
Our
fall racing season begins with the BIKINI
REGATTA, scheduled to be held on Saturday AUGUST 24th. This has been a really fun race over the
years and I look forward to a bunch of boats racing. Bob Canon, our Racing Committee chairmen, will talk to us about
the upcoming Bikini Regatta at the August monthly meeting. We also have to start making plans for the
upcoming Florida - Georgia Ocean Challenge, to be held in October.
I
look forward to seeing your smiling faces at our next monthly meeting at the
Kraft Athletic Center on Tuesday August
6th, happy hour starts at 6:30 pm! We
can also discuss making final plans for our Labor Day week-end cruise to St.
Simons.
VICE COMMODORE:
There is an old saying that the best things in life are free. Maybe, maybe not. In our search to get a web site I thought it might be of some advantage to explore some “FREE” stuff. As a member of Yahoo, again free, I created a group for the Amelia Island Sailing Club. It is kind of like having a web site. We have an address. In addition, the “group” has a message board, a place to post files (newsletters, cruise schedules, race schedules, etc.), a calendar, a place for photos (I have loaded several already) and a bunch more. Now all we need is for some club members to join the site (free) and start using it (free). It will accomplish most if not all of what we wanted a web site for and did I mention it is FREE.
The
address is http://groups.yahoo.com/group/aisailingclub.
Thanks,
Butch

If you have any newsworthy items you’d like to
contribute to the newsletter, you can e-mail them to me at isabel.romero@cnet.navy.mil
by the 15th of the month for inclusion in the following months
newsletter.
Those of you who recently returned from the Bahamas
or any other wonderful sailing trips, how about e-mailing me with your
adventure for inclusion in next months newsletter. Remember, there are a lot of members who cannot attend all
meetings and who I’m sure would like to hear about your trip as well. Also, if you have any pictures, please
e-mail them to me so I can include them in the newsletter.
TREASURER:
Tamara Duncan
Tamara and the USS Louisianna Wives Group will be washing boats on Saturday, August 17th beginning at 9:00 am. Monies raised assist the wives group in subsidizing events while the men are on patrol. This ensures all families can participate in activities offered. A sign up sheet will be passed around during the August meeting or you can call Tamara direct at 277-6539. (Suggested donation = $0.75 per foot)
See attached financial report.

We are planning to have a Pot Luck
Dinner at our next meeting, Tues, Aug 6th

night, we
will eat instead. Bring your favorite dish to share. We had a wonderful
pork barbeque Sunday the 14th of July,
thanks to Ray Seth. We won't be doing
anything
til later in Sept or October due to
the Leckie family move to Marsh Lakes.
