The Fourth of July is past
and Labor Day looms on the horizon. I hope that everyone has been
enjoying the summer. Recently, a couple of your flag officers met and the topic
of 'frostbite' sailing came up. Members from the 'northern
climes' may recall that frostbite sailing usually starts in the fall when
the big boats are taken out of the water for winter storage and
involves racing in a small dinghy in very cold water - fun? The
races were always followed by gathering where good (hot) food and grog was
served in an attempt to warm frozen bodies.
I would like to canvass the
membership to see if anyone has a dinghy rigged for sailing? We have a 12
foot Yankee (on the lines of a Dyer Dhow) equipped with rigging and sail.
If we could find two or three additional boats we thought of starting a
frostbiting series for the club beginning in our winter doldrums months of
December, January and perhaps February. The races could be held in protected
waters, like the A.I. sailing basin where many club members already moor their
boats or up one of the creeks, Lanceford, etc. The idea would be to hold
the races on Saturday or Sunday, followed by a party. I'll be bringing this topic up at our monthly
meeting but thought I would give everyone a 'heads up' to think about ahead of
time. I would like to thank everyone who has participated in out 50/50 raffles.
You generosity has enabled the club to grow it's coffers, which in turn has
given us the ability to host events such as our June meeting's cook out. Remember, our buffet for this month will be
an international theme or you favorite dish.
See you all at our next
meeting.

The Scuttlebutt is
placed on the new website each month and past issues are archived to that
site. The Scuttlebutt is also e-mailed
to each member who has submitted an e-mail address. A few
hard copies of the Scuttlebutt are available at the meetings. A Calendar has been added to the website,
check it out. The latest Membership list
is located in the forum on the website.
Check out the very helpful links on the website. If any club member has Cruise Reports,
Photographs, or any other items of interest for our Scrapbook please send them
