From The Commodore:

Welcome to the second half of the Amelia Island Sailing Club’s season.  The remainder of the year should be as much fun as the first half.  Don’t forget about the Bikini Race on August 26th.  This is always a fun race, even in the heat!  The Mary Wanda-er safely returned to Amelia Island on June 16th, after a month in the Abaco’s, and after sitting out tropical storm “Alberto” in Titusville.  If all goes as planned, I will have a slide presentation, during the dinner hour, of our trip.  I will also give you a brief synopsis of our trip to the Abaco’s during our meeting.  Check Tanya’s “Land Crusin” section for August’s dinner theme.  Bring a dish and enjoy the social hour starting at 6:30 p.m.  The Vice Commodore’s “Poker Run” and picnic were a huge success and it was great to see many of you there.  There is usually a dock party at the Amelia Island Yacht Basin on Friday evenings for anybody who can attend.  The dock party is not a Club sanctioned event, but everyone is welcome to join all who show up.   Come to the meeting, participate in the events, join in on the fun, fellowship, and sailing, and make “your” Club all that it can be.

See You At The Meeting,

Roger

Vice Commodore's Report

I cannot believe that we are into August already. Seems we have been so busy with AISC activities the summer is just flying by.

The Poker Run which was held on July 15th was a great success. Nine boats participated rounding the buoys and a surprise entry, a Trident submarine joined in the fun. The winner, with a full house, was George Mason aboard Ketchup IV. He went home with the coveted Poker Run Trophy and a Handheld VHF donated by West Marine.

I believe we had close to 50 people at the barbeque that followed the Poker Run, and I assure you no one went home hungry

Bob and Rosemary Archer did the provisioning and cooking for the barbeque. They did a great job. My hat is off to them. Thank you!

The next planned event is the Predicted Log Race scheduled for August 5th. But I will discuss more about that at our August meeting.

John
