Commodore's Report

After a restful July, August marks the beginning of our activities again, and in our case, hopefully we will all find that August comes in with the sound of AISC members having fun and laughing

By the time you read this report, the Vice Commodore's Poker Run will have been completed. Mid August brings the Bikini Race, and Labor Day weekend is the St. Augustine cruise.

There should be enough activities for everyone to enjoy. If you do not have a boat and want to race, come to the Captain's meeting and we will get you on one. Remember all you have to do to race on a sailboat, is not mind boating on an angle, be able to pull a rope or two, and not mind a little yelling.

As you make your plans for the month, please try to include as many of our activities as you can. The more we all participate, the more fun we seem to have.

If you choose not to cruise to St. Augustine, at least spend the time and drive down for our Sunday morning dock party and evening grill out. There is a lot to do in St. Augustine and I am certain you will enjoy yourself

Because a lot of planning goes into these events, participants are usually rewarded with great memories. Please remember you will get a lot out of AISC, but only if you participate.

See you on the water

John

Vice Commodore’s Report

It was a great day for the third annual Poker Run with 7 boats participating.  Sunday Mornin Jazz won the Poker Run and prize of a hand held VHF radio. Sunday Mornin Jazz also won the fishing contest trophy and fishing lure by catching a behemoth size King Fish beating out a slightly smaller King Fish caught by Sea Skip.

A special thanks to Amelia Island Yacht Basin for sponsoring the Poker Run and providing a feast that was a gourmet’s delight. Another thank you to Carol and Kevin for being such great hosts and true to Carol’s word she “wowed us.”

Thank you also to West Marine for donating the hand held VHF radio and thank you to Amelia Island Plantation for the donation of a 2 night 3 day stay at the 4 diamond beach front Amelia Inn which was won by a guest aboard Gianni Buoy.  (Not sure of the spelling!)

See you on the water,

Charlie

Time to do some serious Labor day planning for the big cruise. I need to finalize the rooster and send it in. It looks like we may have a few extra slots at the marina. I will have to let the dockmaster know soon. So, if you want to go, or find that your boat has strayed to Washington, DC area and can’t make the trip, let me know. I’m still taking suggestions on entertainment. A golf tournament has been proposed. Other ideas are welcome.

Well race fans glad your back. The next race is August 18th, Captains meeting is at 0900hrs at Tiger Point Marina. (Why there you ask!! because 90% of the boats that race are there) This is our Bikini Race and that means that a woman must be at the helm at all times during the race. We are also looking for a committee boat for this race.  This is the start of our fall races. So come on out and race. If you don't have a sail boat and want to crew come to the captains meeting and we will get you on a boat. That’s it for now.
