From The Commodore:

I appreciate the opportunity to serve the Amelia Island Sailing Club as Commodore for 2006 and I hope all of you had as much fun as I did.  I want to thank everyone for their support and hard work this year.  Next year promises to be another banner year with John Burns as our new Commodore.  Our Christmas party on December 2nd will culminate the 2006 sailing club season and introduce our new flag officers for 2007.  I look forward to serving John this coming year and I know each of you will do your best to make 2007 an even better year for the Amelia Island Sailing Club.  Thanks again for your support and I wish each of you a very “Merry Christmas” and “Happy New Year”!  I hope to see you one the water . . . . .

Roger

By the time you read this, the 2006 Holiday Party will have been completed and the calendar year will be drawing to a close. As I look back at 2006 I truly believe we had a great year. For those of you that attended the November meeting and saw the slide show of 2006, I think you will agree there were certainly a lot of smiling faces in those pictures.

In 2006, we had eight club races, two inter club races, a poker run, two cruises, our annual dinghy race, a couple of anchor outs, a whole bunch of Friday night dock parties and of course nine great monthly meetings.

Although we go by the title “Sailing Club,” I believe there are almost as many power boaters as there are sail boaters in our club today. Our powerboat members are becoming as active as our sailboat members, participating in the cruises, the races, (either as crew on the sailboats or as committee boats), and of course in the Poker Run.

Beginning in January I will become Commodore. Following in Roger’s footsteps is no easy task, so I am certain I will be looking for a lot of help from all of you.

The officer’s and committee chairs for 2007 will be:

                                       Vice Commodore - Charlie Steinkamp

                                       Rear Commodore - Joe Blanchard

                                       Treasurer – Roger Henderson

                                       Race Committee – Scott Inglis

                                       Membership Committee – Gene Sokolowski

Cruise Committee – Bob Archer (Butch Beard will assist Bob)

                                       Program Committee – Tom Mason

                                       Landside Committee- Tanya Christensen

                                       Mooring Committee – Peter Zachary

Holiday Party Committee – to be announced

Besides the usual activities we do each year, we will be looking for more things to do in 2007. If you have any ideas please let us know. But most important please continue to participate. The more of us involved in the races, cruises, etc., the more fun we seem to have.

In the meantime, have a Happy Holiday and a Healthy and Prosperous New Year.

John
