From The Commodore:

It just doesn't seem possible but we are into 2007 and this is my first report as Commodore.

By the time you read this, we will have had our Officers and Committee Chairman/Chairwoman planning meeting. The purpose of which is to assure we all understand our responsibilities for the year.

2006 was a very good year for our club with a lot of activities and even better, a lot of member participation. This year should be no exception.

There will be 8 club races, and 2 interclub races. We plan on at least 2 cruises, a Poker Run, maybe a fishing contest, and a couple anchor outs at Cumberland (which are always a big success). Combine all of those activities with our 9 monthly meetings, our Holiday Party and the Friday night get socials, and all of our calendars should be pretty full.

Although our name implies we are a sailing club, many of our members, close to 40%, own powerboats and with the exception of the races, participate in all activities. I encourage our powerboat owners to join the sailors and crew on the races. The Saturday races are preceded by a Captain's meeting where members looking to crew are divided among the participating boats. All you have to do to crew is volunteer, not be afraid of boating on an angle, and be able to pull a few lines. Oh yeah, there may be some shouting involved!

See you at the February meeting.

John

I am honored to be selected to become Vice Commodore for the AISC for 2007.

The sailing season is upon us and an active cruising and racing schedule is being planned and scheduled.  With regard to racing I would summarize that our club has gentlemen/gentle-ladies type racing with nary a protest flag ever flown in the club races that I have known in the past 8 years or during races in which I crewed before that.  I encourage everyone to participate in the races even if it is just to sail/motor around the course to participate in the fellowship behind those who are more energetic. (The Mary Wanda-er does that but not on purpose!)

If anyone has any ideas that they would like to discuss or if I can be of assistance please call me at (904) 261-5213 or send me an email at steiny1642@aol.com

Fair winds and following seas,

Charlie

Welcome back race fans. The start of the race season is here. So check those sails, clean them bottoms and get some crew together. Here the dates for the first four races.

FEB 24th   Ice Bucket Regatta

MARCH 17th Green Bush Regatta

APRIL 28  Around The Sound Regatta

MAY 19th  Nassau Sound Regatta

Captains Meetings will be at 9AM at the AIYB. All boat/crew racing must have a waver signed. Wavers will be at Captains meetings.

Also non-boat owners if you want to crew, come to the Captains meetings .We will get you on a boat.

On another subject the Race Committee is looking for some help. We need committee boats for the races, sponsor letters written, photo's to the paper and a hand in setting up/running some of the races. You don't have to have a sailboat to help.

That’s it for now, let’s have a good year.  Scott Inglis.
