Commodore's Report

With this report, I guess we could say the year is half over. I do not know about you but I turned around and it is June. We have had some great activities. There have been four AISC races, one inter club race, the Offshore Challenge and the Jekyll Island Cruise.

Since we had no activities

in Jan, and since it is now only the beginning of June, all of these activities was squeezed into four months.

I am sure the Cruise Committee will report on the Jekyll Island Cruise, so all I want to do in my report is to thank Linda & Marty Bonk for picking us up at the marina, transporting 26 of us to their house, showing us wonderful "Southern Hospitality," and topping the evening off with a superb BBQ.

Since we will soon be starting the second half of the years activities, I want to remind everyone, that beginning in August we will have a Poker Run, the Bikini Race followed by the St.

Augustine Cruise. Then we will have

three additional AISC races in the fall, one inter club race and finally the Christmas Party. Somewhere in between I think our Cruise Committee might arrange a Cumberland Island Anchor out.

As most of you know, I have a pretty nice camera and I like to take pictures. Well I have plenty of proof of the fun we all have at our events. I can only sum it up by saying, if you are not having fun in the AISC, you are not coming to our activities. Stop being bashful, and come on..... participate.

If you want to participate, the best event to begin participating is coming up in August, The Poker Run. Powerboat, sailboat, kayak, or rowboat, it does not matter, you can join the fun. If you do not have a boat, "C'mon Down" and we will put you on one.

No you will not have to row!

I look forward to seeing you at the June meeting and at the Poker Run in August, and don't forget to smile when I point my camera in your direction

John

The Amelia Island Sailing Club currently has $4,029.74 in the treasury.  It is early in the year and you can be assured your officers (not me, of course!  Ha!) are figuring ways the club can benefit from our dues.  I am sure a mid-summer’s party and Christmas parties are in the works.  I hope to see all of you at the June 5th meeting!!!

The Cruise to Jekyll Harbor is all set for 26-28 May and we have 15 boats signed up to go with only 3 boats that I do not know if reservations at made for. We have 480 feet of dock space reserved. The first evening at Jekyll everyone is on their own for dinner and we will have dock gathering in the evening for cocktails and discussion about the Dingy Races on Sunday. Sunday morning we will have a Mimosa gathering starting between 9 and 10 so everyone should bring a morning tasty treat to share as well as champagne and orange juice. Dingy Races will start between 11 and 12AM, (men’s, ladies and couples blind races) there will be wonderful prizes for the winners and a special prize awarded to the BEST DRESSED COUPLES CREW. There will also be a NEW BOAT awarded to the winner of the DOCKSIDE Fishing contest to be awarded at the Sunday nights dockside dinner. The fish must be caught at the docks and presented to each boat captain for inspection, measurement and certification as to being a real fish. A roll call of boat Captains will be made so make sure your fish has been measured, inspected and certified by each Captain. Sunday night about 6PM there will be a pot luck dinner dockside and everyone should cook there own main course and bring a side dish to share.

The Labor Day Cruise to St Augustine is set up for 1,2 and 3 September with 15 slips currently reserved. It is not necessary to call with your charge card information for that cruise at this time. I am currently in Washington DC and will not return until about the date of the cruise to Jekyll. Butch will fill in for me at the meeting on Tuesday. I have also briefed John Burns. Take care and have a wonderful day.
