From the Commodore

I want to thank everyone who attended the February meeting for helping us kick off another banner year of the Amelia Island Sailing Club.  We had above average attendance and lots of new faces.  I hope our visitors will become regular members.  There were members who were unable to attend and they certainly were missed.  I hope everyone will continue to encourage members of our boating community to join in the fun and fellowship of the Sailing Club.  Maybe we can convert some of the power boaters to the thrill of sailing.  I can dream can’t I?  We have some great cruises planned for the year and I encourage all who can to participate.  The cruises are always special events that you will remember for a lifetime.  Our Vice Commodore has some “special” fun events planned this year for sail and power boaters.  Our Friday evening “dock parties” have begun again and are always a fun time.  I would encourage anyone who does not have a Friday evening commitment to join in.  Watch your e-mail for the location as some have been at member’s homes.  I want to especially thank the members who have invited us into their homes on a Friday evening.  They are brave souls!!!  Rear Commodore, Joe Blanchard, will have several Club items displayed at our March meeting.  Check with Joe concerning items you can purchase with our Club logo and let’s proudly show our colors.  Thanks to Tanya, for planning another wonderful potluck dinner and thanks to all who brought such wonderful food.  I can’t wait to see what Tanya has planned for our March meeting.  The potluck dinner and social hour just keep getting better and better.  Do not forget to purchase your 50/50 tickets for the drawing at the end of the meeting.  February’s winner received enough to put a down payment on a boat.  Well almost!  If you have not paid your dues for 2006, please see Bill Bass.  I don’t want him loosing sleep over past due members.  Thanks to everyone for their Club support and participation and I expect to see all of your smiling faces at the March 7th Club meeting.  Remember, sailor who keeps mast out of water is a “happy sailor”!

Vice Commodore's Report

One of the events I am looking at arranging this year is a Power Boat race. Not an ordinary

race where you guys compete to see how much fuel you can burn in as short a time as

possible; (spoken like a true sailor), but a race where skill, dexterity, courage and of course cunning will be required.

Much like sailboats, the power boats would be handicapped and receive a PHRF based on

a number of factors, still to be developed. What I would like to know is how many of our power boating members

would be interested. Please see me at the next meeting or send me an e-mail; captain@burnsweb.com.

I hope most of our Power Boat members respond they would be interested in a fun race, because I think we could have a lot of fun.

Just a reminder, this years Poker Run will be held on July 15th followed by a barbeque at the AIYB.

See you at the meeting

John
