Commodore's Report

Well the year is off to a good start. The first meeting went well with the Committee Chairs outlining the programs for the year. Subsequent to the meeting we had our first race for 2007.

I won't report on the race here because I am certain Scott will have a lot to say in his report, including an incident during the race where one of our more junior captains tried to take on                                     a Trident Submarine. Now that was interesting to watch.

Ted Holmes volunteered to arrange a new activity for the club, a fishing tournament. I will ask Ted to report on the status of the new event at the March meeting, and in future Scuttlebutts.

I would like thank those who have paid their dues and to encourage everyone who hasn't to please pay as soon as possible so we can establish our budgets for this years activities.

We would like to grow our membership this year. If you have friends that are thinking of joining, please bring them to our meeting as your guest. Usually when visitors see how casual our club is,                 and how much fun we have, they are usually pleasantly surprised and join. Remember almost 40% of the boat owners in our club are power boat owners.

Also we are looking for a new committee chair to run the Landside Committee. If anyone is interested, please give me a call (904) 548-0089

Thanks for all your support

John

Vice Commodore’s Report

It may be winter up North but spring has almost arrived on Amelia Island and prime sailing time is here.  Last Saturday was windbreaker and sweater weather with 10 to 15 knot breezes.  This is a good time of the year to call upon members who do not have their own boats.  Selfish motivation is acceptable, i.e. most non boat owning members are younger and enjoy trimming sheets and raising sails.  The foregoing is an attribute that many of we older members can appreciate.

Our club needs publicity to attract members to continue being a successful organization.  Several press releases have been sent to both the Times Union and the News Leader in connection with our activities.  Any similarity to fact in these releases is purely accidental and if it isn’t the way it happened it is the way it should have happened.

Fellow Sailors,

We ended February with $3,581.82 in the bank after our February meeting.  The increase is due to almost everyone paying his or her dues.  If anyone has not yet paid his or her dues for 2007, please bring your check along with your up-dated membership application to our March meeting.

Hello race fans, Well we are off to a good start. We held the Ice Bucket Regatta on Saturday 24 Feb 07.It was such a nice day the ice melted. We had good wind and good current and that made for a fast race. Tom Mason of Baby Blooz ran away with 1st. Gene Sokolowski had a strong 2nd and John Burns with the help of Butch and Gareme got 3rd. (3 captains + 1 floating hotel = 3rd) I had to pull a few strings but I got a submarine to block the course for a while .Tom Mason still thinks lead bullets won't hurt fiberglass but after a mean look he turned away.  Thanks to Ted Homes, as he was the committee boat and he and I did get some fishing in.

Next Race is 17 March 07 St Patrick’s Regatta. All boats must have green on something to race or you will have an anchor start.

Come out and race the more boats we have the funnier it is. If nothing else it gets your boat unwelded from the pier.
