Tis
the season. Everybody wants to get out and enjoy the wonderful weather.
Cruising is the thing. The other night there were 3 Bon Voyage parties on the
docks at AIYB. The next day kicked off 2 six month and one one week cruises.
Since then another six weeker and a one weeker to Charleston and back. That is
a long haul. We only made it to Savannah and back in a week. For those of you
who knew Herkimer, he gave up the ghost in the Ossassabaw Sound. I got started
and couldn’t stop the s’s. Kind of like Mississippi. Back to Herkimer, The big
H issued a mighty cloud of black smoke and hasn’t been heard from since.
Fortunately Admiral Martha had refused to go without backup power, so little
Herc is now the man of the hour. The end of our cruise was met with a wonderful
‘Welcome Home Raft-up” at Cumberland. I think we should move the Friday night
parties over there as long as the weather holds. If you aren’t using your boat
now and every chance you get, you are missing the boat. Maybe that is where
“they” got that saying.
Fair
winds and strong anchors,
Butch

2003 Cruise Schedule
May 24- 26 Jacksonville at the landing
Plans are to cruise down to the landing and
stay at the River City Brewing Co. Marina for Memorial Day. I have reserved 8
slips. Slip fees are 1.25 per foot, and electricity is 3.oo. Call either me at
548-4437 or make reservations directly at 398-7918. The dock master is Lee. If
currents are bad, he said he had an outside wall to tie -up to till current
subsided. Also he said if you need to
cancel, it would be no problem if he had 3 days notice. Now is the time to
confirm your slip. This will be our first three-day cruise.
July 3-6 Jekyll
Island, Ga.
The Forth of July is a big event at Jekyll.
Space has been reserved at Jekyll Harbor Marina. As mentioned at the March
meeting, reservations need to be made now. I have a form and will need to have
the following info. I need boat name, length, Electric requirements, owner,
Credit card #, and arrival date. I would like to get these in soon. This is the
way they wanted to handle the reservations. If you wish to call directly, the #
is 912-635-3137. E-mail is dockmaster@jekyllharbor.com. If you do this
directly, let me know so that I know and can plan accordingly.
August 30- Sept. 1 St. Simons Island, Ga.
Labor Day cruise to Golden Isles Marina (in
process of confirmation)
October 3-6 St.
Mary's, Ga.
This is my favorite trip. Will sail to St.
Mary's to the town dock or Lang's Marina to help celebrate the Rock Shrimp
Festival. Lots of fun, good food, and many activities and exhibits. Dockage is
$1.00 ft. but does not take reservations but Mr. Lang promises plenty of room.
I have stayed at town dock for one night with no problem.
My boat will be in dry dock a good part of
the summer. If you would like good crew and possibly shared expenses, let me
know, as I would enjoy sailing. Also, May and June are good times to have a
raft-up at Cumberland. If you have any dates or suggestions, please let me know
at 261-2872 or e-mail at jsmartin@fccj.edu.

Program Committee

The
guest speaker for May is Mr. Don Whitman aka "Rod and Reel Doctor"
will be advising how to catch Bottom Fish at the nearby reefs and also how to
troll for Kingfish. Remember, this sport is called "Fishing,"
not "Catching."
The guest speaker for June is Charlie Weaver of Windward Sailing School. The
topic will be "Rules of the Road." Several of our members have
graduated from Charlie Weaver's school but their failure to remember his
lessons is not a reflection on him.
There will probably not be speakers for the months of July, August and
September because of typical low attendance at meetings during the summer
months because of vacations. Possible future topics include first aid and
medical attention. I would like to have a volunteer or volunteers to give a
racing seminar. Jump right up!

Vicki's companies will also
make custom sheets and quilted spreads for your new bed.
They are also involved in
supplying the boating community with a full canvas service.
Charlie, who purchased his
sails from Wind Dancer and can attest to the workmanship and
sailing capability of their
sails by coming in 3rd at the Green Bush Regatta.
Thank You, Charlie!!
Treasurer: Tammy was unable to be there but the
Balance Sheet looks Very Good for the Club.
Rear Commodore: The Clubs New Web Site is UP ->
"www.ameliaislandsailing.org" Please dial in and register for the

Race Committee: John Brooks handed out a 14 page
document which will help everyone
know exactly what you and
your fellow racers have. Along with that there was also a list
of the UpComing Races. Next
race is 4/5/03 Around the Sound Race. Should be Exciting.
Bob Cannon spoke about the
Following Offshore Races coming up. They are the Nassau Sound
Race coming up on May 10,
2003 and then the Florida/Georgia Challenge on May 23-24.
This annual race will start
at Amelia Island and end at St. Simons on the 23rd. There is a
another portion of the race
that leaves The 24th from St Simons to Charleston SC. Butch
suggested that we try to
put together 2-3 Boats for the trip up to Charleston.
Cruise Committee: Nothing New!
PHRF Committee: Hope you like your ratings for Year!!!
Program Committee: Charlie stated that the May Meeting we
will have a Special Guest
Speaker the "ROD &
REEL DOCTOR" and for June, Charlie Weaver will speak to us on
"The Rules of the

for those interested. This
will start in June and will be 6 , 2 hour sessions. Charlie is
working up the Cost.
Landside Committee: Linda suggested that for the May
Meeting we have hors d’oeuvres, seeing that we will be having a
speaker.
Business: The Commodore once again urged
everyone to show "Club Pride" by
Wearing anything that Shows
Off Our Sailing Community. With Day-Light savings time
approaching it was
suggested that we begin a Wednesday Race Night. Where we all can learn
how our boats work in
Semi-Competitive Environment.
MEETING ADJOURNED.
