Commodore's Report

April sure passed quickly. We had the Fishing Contest, and the Around the Sound Regatta. If you read the papers you will see we have been getting a lot of publicity. Hopefully it will attract some new interest in our club.

I want to thank Bob and Ann Antrim for volunteering to head the Landside Committee, and I encourage everyone to support them.

As for May, it looks like we will have another very active month. We have the 11th annual Coastal Cup Regatta between our Club and the Golden Isle Sailing Club on May 12th, our own Nassau Sound Race on May 19th and of course our Memorial Day weekend cruise to Jekyll Island on the 26th.

All of these events are a lot of fun and I encourage everyone to participate. If you want to race, you do not need a boat, just join us at the Captain's meeting and we will get you on a boat. If you do not have a boat that you can stay overnight on, just drive up to Jekyll Island on Sunday the 27th and join in on the fun. We have the mimosa party in the morning, followed by the dinghy races, and of course our dock party dinner in the evening.

Hope to see you at next Tuesday meeting; I hear it is going to be a fun event.

Thanks for all your support

John

Vice Commodore’s Report

The Third Annual Vice Commodore’s Poker Run will be held on August 4, 2007 and will be sponsored by Amelia Island Yacht Basin.  For those members who have not previously been exposed to this world class premier event the rules generally are as follows except as periodically influenced by Captain Morgan.

The Vice Commodore will announce at the skippers meeting which five (5) buoys are to be rounded or at least to have been transited by in the near vicinity and claimed by the participant to have been rounded.  Those boats succeeding in this endeavor, whether by motor, sail or combination thereof will receive a card for each buoy rounded plus two additional cards for a round of seven (7) card stud poker.  Said cards will be used to play for the usual high stakes reward or less depending on the donation from a favorite local parts vendor that we all support.

Amelia Island Yacht Basin will provide festivities from 4 p.m. until 6 p.m. at the Manatee House. Carroll has said that Amelia Island Yacht Basin is going to wow us so do not be late getting back!

In addition to the Poker Run Prize an award will be made to the person catching the largest fish on an artificial lure dragged behind a participating boat.  Weather permitting buoys in the St. Marys Inlet will be selected to facilitate trolling for Kingfish.

Additional details will be provided in the future.

Fair winds and following seas,

Charles Steinkamp

The Cruise to Jekyll Harbor is all set for 26-28 May and we have 15 boats signed up to go with only 3 boats that I do not know if reservations at made for. We have 480 feet of dock space reserved. The first evening at Jekyll everyone is on their own for dinner and we will have dock gathering in the evening for cocktails and discussion about the Dingy Races on Sunday. Sunday morning we will have a Mimosa gathering starting between 9 and 10 so everyone should bring a morning tasty treat to share as well as champagne and orange juice. Dingy Races will start between 11 and 12AM, (men’s, ladies and couples blind races) there will be wonderful prizes for the winners and a special prize awarded to the BEST DRESSED COUPLES CREW. There will also be a NEW BOAT awarded to the winner of the DOCKSIDE Fishing contest to be awarded at the Sunday nights dockside dinner. The fish must be caught at the docks and presented to each boat captain for inspection, measurement and certification as to being a real fish. A roll call of boat Captains will be made so make sure your fish has been measured, inspected and certified by each Captain. Sunday night about 6PM there will be a pot luck dinner dockside and everyone should cook there own main course and bring a side dish to share.

The Labor Day Cruise to St Augustine is set up for 1,2 and 3 September with 15 slips currently reserved. It is not necessary to call with your charge card information for that cruise at this time. I am currently in Washington DC and will not return until about the date of the cruise to Jekyll. Butch will fill in for me at the meeting on Tuesday. I have also briefed John Burns. Take care and have a wonderful day.
