There are some exciting things on the horizon for our club. Imagine sponsoring 2 Tall Ships that would come to Fernandina Beach next year. We have set the ball in motion. It will take some coordination and legwork and we need volunteers. I hope lots of folks will step forward to make this happen. I will try to keep everyone updated.

On a purely club note, I wanted to be the first to get a recipe in for the AISC recipe book. Let’s see. I’m trying to recall this old family recipe for one of my favorites. I think it goes: lots of ice and equal parts rum and whatever else you have on the boat. Repeat as necessary. Then there is the famous Butch’s Chicken. That one is a little more complicated. Remove frozen chicken fillets from frig. Put on plate. Microwave till warm. Serve after a few adult beverages and everyone thinks I slaved in the galley for hours. Tanya, this is going to be a snap. There’s Italian sausage on the grill at dock (Friday night special), Italian sausage on the grill at anchor and Italian sausage on the grill during or immediately after the race to distract other racers and bribe the committee boat. I may be the best cook in the club. Of course if you would like to challenge that thesis, submit your recipes. In order to qualify the recipe must be prepared and presented at a club function or gathering of 3 or more club members one of which must be a club officer of flag rank. The official recipe consisting of ingredients (we need to be able to tell the doctor what caused the reaction) and preparation method (so it can become someone else’s old family recipe) must be submitted by email or on the back of a napkin to Tanya Christensen. Of course all of my submissions have been presented many times and this becomes my official entry form.

See ya on the seas.

Butch

2003 Cruise Schedule

October 3-6             St. Mary's, Ga.

This is my favorite trip. Will sail to St. Mary's to the town dock or Lang's Marina to help celebrate the Rock Shrimp Festival. Lots of fun, good food, and many activities and exhibits. Dockage is $1.00 ft. but does not take reservations but Mr. Lang promises plenty of room. I have stayed at town dock for one night with no problem.

My boat will be in dry dock a good part of the summer. If you would like good crew and possibly shared expenses, let me know, as I would enjoy sailing, please let me know at 261-2872 or e-mail at jsmartin@fccj.edu.
