Commodore's Report

We are rapidly approaching the end of the year, and the end of another sailing season. The nice thing about living in Florida is there really isn't an end to the sailing season. All it means is we stop wearing T-shirts and shorts, and maybe we are a little more selective in what days we go out, but we still go out. However, our northern cousins are probably planning on hauling their boats and getting them ready for winter storage. Now that really is an end to the sailing season. Having been there and done that, I know how depressing it is to put the boat away and retire to the TV and fireplace for 5 months. Do you know how many times I have driven to the boat in freezing cold weather, shoveled snow from around it, so I could just to see it, touch it, and maybe even sit on it? Depressing!

We on the other hand have two more club races, a Georgia to Florida Race and I think our Cruise Director is working on one last short cruise. That should take us through November. There is even some talk about maybe doing something New Years Eve. Three years ago we rafted up at Cumberland, watched the moon and the stars and welcomed the New Year from the decks of our boats. Think about it, sailing/boating the last and first days of the year.

I know the Nominating Committee is working on getting a slate of officers and committee members for next year. If you want to volunteer, it is alright, please do. Remember this isn't the Army, it is okay to volunteer. As a matter of fact everything we do is based on volunteers, so please don't be bashful, join in.

Although you will hear a lot more about this in the Christmas Party Committees report, I still wanted to remind everyone to save December 1st or the AISC Member Christmas Party. I think it will be a hum dinger. (that means you will have a real good time).

See you at the October meeting.

John

Cruisers,

This is truly a great time of year for boating. We have good winds (sometimes too good) and cooler weather. It seems that our anchor out at Cumberland didn’t happen. Actually we had an ‘almost’ at TP. Sunday Morning rafted up to the Cheese and we each celebrated our race accomplishments. I think Babs was just happy to be alive (I think she was happy, maybe it was the wine). I have had no other cruise reports.

We have before us an excellent opportunity. George Mason sent me an email suggesting that we have a race(or cruise) down to the St. John’s River and we could party and stay at their dock for the evening thereafter. I, of course, on behalf of the club, accepted and am now in the process of trying to get it scheduled. It is looking like the end of October or first of Nov. I could use some feedback from the cruiser as to a good date.
