From The Commodore:

Here we are at the peak of the Atlantic hurricane season and we have “Ernesto” bearing down on Florida.  I trust that all of our boat owners have their hurricane contingency plans in place.

Kudos to Scott Inglis and his “Race Committee” for a great “Bikini Race” and a special thanks to Capt. Bob Archer and Rosemary for using “Rosebud II” as the committee boat.  As commodore, I followed everyone to the finish line to make sure they finished safely.  LOL  If you believe that, I have some marshland to sell you!  OK, someone had to be last.  Scott and his committee are diligently working on the details of October’s GA-FL race and it should be another race you will not want to miss.  Personally, that is my favorite race of the year.

Labor Day weekend should be a blast for all who are sailing and/or motoring down to St. Augustine.  Hopefully “Ernesto” will have no effect on the city docks this year.

This year our September meeting will be on September 5th, the following day after returning from St. Augustine.  I hope to see everyone there and come early for the potluck dinner and fellowship.  Check out Tanya’s “Landside Committee” report for this month’s dinner theme.

 Plan Ahead & Stay Safe,

Roger

Vice Commodore's Report

I turn around and it is the end of August. Where did the summer go?

It has been a great summer with a lot of AISC activities. Best of all, we have had great membership participation.

Our club hasn't grown as much as we would have liked this year, so I am asking each of own members to bring your friends to our meetings.

Members do not need to own a boat. There are plenty of activities for power or sail boaters, and non boat owners as well.

Introduce your friends to our club. Encourage them to try joining in on our activities. We want to grow the club and increase our activities in this great community in which we live.

As for the end of the summer, well one of the great things about where we live, is that the end of summer only means, boating gets better. I remember my first year in Florida. I was complaining about the heat and humidity, when Alan Trowbridge looked at me and said, "wait until September 15th, that's when boating really gets great here."

I soon found as always, Alan was correct. September brought great sailing and cruising. So good-bye summer, I'll see you on the water.

John
